Seek the Shadow
Intro
Last couple of days or weeks has been pretty darn warm. These temperatures make really hard and unpleasant conditions to ride in. I don’t cope with this heat very good and I have to make myself to go for a ride. To make it fun I came up with a game I call Seek the shadow.
Rules
It’s pretty simple. You have ride in shadow for as long as you can, finding it underneath trees, buildings or whatever is available. Once there’s no shade to ride in you have get to the next one as quickly as you can. You collect points for who rode the longest time in the shadow and then, at the end of the ride you decide who’s the winner. Or not, you just gonna have a laugh and some beers and go home. Bonus points for shredding downhill or doing cool stunts or tricks (skidding is my favourite one). Try it next time on your ride.
Right off the bat there was only one cloud, that I could find on the sky—not a promising start of the game. I guess the heat melts them away in a same way as it melts my brain inside my head.
Game Map
Here’s a nice example of a stretch of a gravel road with no shade. Quickly, find the next patch of shade!
Bonus points if you find shaded downhill where you can shred, skid between the tiny patches of sunlight.
I love this piece of road.
More bonus points for getting your feet, butt, socks, jersey… wet. Any source of water is hard to find in this weather so these points are extra bonus for sure.
This one is quite complicated. I suggest sprinting all the way until the next shade.
Using a shade of your mate does not count!

At this point I am not sure who’s winning. They’re so fast it’s hard to keep track.

Damn fields made us ride quick to seek the shadows of buildings.
The game is over and points are counted. I don’t know who won. It doesn’t even matter, the most important thing is we had fun and a beer at the end of the ride. That’s the whole point.
